North Bay Hosts Annual Soccer Challenge Cup August 14 & 15th!

Soccer lovers plan to come and watch the annual North Bay Challenge Cup coming up August 14 and 15th! This is a yearly "competitive soccer" event sanctioned by the Ontario Soccer Association.

The games will be played in the Veterans, ONR, Amelia, Fisher and Graham Soccer Fields. The teams are made up of ages 11 to 13-year-old girls and boys of Ontario who travel to North Bay to play a minimum of three matches for the purpose of qualifying for the final North Bay Challenge Cup match held on August 15th.

For more information on this great sports event contact the Parks, Recreation and Leisure Department of the City of North Bay at 705-474-0400 at ext. 2329 and speak to Frank Nucara.

Sport events and tournaments are popular in Ontario`s Near North - so come on out and enjoy yourself and root for your favourite team!

It may not be the FIFA Worldcup - but it is certainly as entertaining and lots of fun for participants as well as for visitors cheering on their players and teams!

Upscaling your stay at the cottage by having a personal chef!

I just read the article about Chef Glen Sheridan returning to North Bay and running a catering business as well as offering private in-home cooking services. Here is the article published in "Northern Ontario Business": http://www.northernontariobusiness.com/Regional-News/North-Bay/Chef-puts-French-stamp-on-North-Bay.aspx

Why not up-scaling your stay at the cottage with having a private chef for a day or catering a BBQ event for you? This is different and gives the homemaker and camp-cook a break!

A stay at the cottage can be so divers - not just fishing, laying at the beach or hiking, but there is so much you can do starting with a nice, clean fully equipped cottage at Rockview Camp: Daytrips, golf games, spa days, private chef's or, why not, have BBQ cook-off with your new found friends in the other cottages ....

A stay at the cottage can become what you want it to be!

Fun Fest in Commanda this week - it is unique!

There's a party going on in Commanda.

A fun fest begins Wednesday and runs through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Children can take part on sac races and indoor crafts like paper people and teddy bear making.

On Saturday, there's a Teddy Bear Picnic from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Commanda Heritage Centre, 4077 Highway 255 west of Trout Creek.

Kids are encouraged to bring their Teddies and show them off. Judges will name the Teddies that are the best dressed, oldest or most original.

The picnic menu will be worth the drive to the heritage centre," Jaimie Board, president of the Commanda Heritage Centre, said in a media release. "Homemade pogos plus designer veggie platters are part of the planning for this event.

So dress up your Teddy and make your way to Commanda for some fun." The picnic itself will take place from noon to 2 p.m.

Just a reminder: Wear your life jacket and know your limits around water!

North Bay O.P.P. are investigating a boating incident that occurred in the area of Sun Set Cove Rd. on the South Shore of lake Nipissing at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Saturday the 17th of July 2010.

54 year old Andrew Wedzinga of Thorndale Ontario was returning from a fishing trip with his wife when they encountered strong winds and heavy wave action on the lake. The two were operating a 14 foot aluminium boat with a 9.9 motor. Mr. Wedzinga was tossed out of the boat only a few hundred meters from their destination. Mrs. Wedzinga was unable to control the small craft and was able to secure her life jacket before she too was thrown from the boat. Mrs. Wedzinga was able to make it to a nearby island where she was rescued by family shortly after.

Mr. Wedzinga was not wearing a life jacket and could not be located by family who immediately began searching for him. Family and friends were assisted by Nipissing Volunteer Fire Fighters, O.P.P. Marine and land Units in the search. The O.P.P. helicopter also attended the scene to assist with an aerial search of the area. The search was unsuccessful at the time of this release and O.P.P. Marine units remained searching the area till dark.

The O.P.P. Underwater Search and Recovery Unit will be attending the area on Sunday to continue search and recovery operations.
